THE 2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500

...Even When You're Not Working. Wherever you travel across this land, you'll see that Chevy Silverado is on the job. Carrying the weight. Building the bridges. Working the family farms. And sometimes, just working to take a break from it all. Whether you need a pickup truck to haul a truckload of materials to a job site or simply haul it out of town for a weekend camping trip, you need a pickup that works for you - even when you're not working. That truck is the 2012 Silverado 1500, the long-lasting, dependable full-size pickup truck that fits your lifestyle. From getting there to getting away from there, Chevy Runs Deep.

EXTERIOR

What Makes a Silverado a Silverado?

You can count on Chevy to take a great truck and make it even greater. For 2012, many models have a fresh new look, but underneath they're still the Silverado 1500 on which you've come to depend. Like most Silverado models, they're equipped with smooth responsive handling and the StabiliTrak® Electronic Control System that now includes Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist (excludes Silverado Hybrid).

INTERIOR

There's One Place Like Home

Available heated and cooled, leather-appointed front seats, MP3 playback(1), SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio(2), driver lumbar support, 60/40 bench seats, and cruise control are some of the feature comforts you'll find inside Silverado. Some are standard, some are optional - all are part of the Silverado experience.

PERFORMANCE

Power and Payload

Every proven Vortec V8 engine available on Silverado is capable of generating over 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. Or step up to the available Vortec 6.2L V8 that generates 403 horses and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. Not surprisingly, all that power is complemented by a lot of payload capability: 1,930+ lbs. for Crew Cab and 1,908 lbs. for Extended Cab models with the available MAX Trailering Pack (3).

Powerful and Efficient

The available Vortec 5.3L V8 offers an impressive combination of 315 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque and an EPA estimated 21 MPG highway, 15 city when running on gasoline - fuel economy no competitive V8 full-size pickup 4x4 can beat.

Frame Technology

Hydro-formed front frame allows for fewer welds, which provide:

  • Clean attachment points
  • Better fit to frame
  • Immense overall frame strength and durability
  • Excellent road isolation and ride performance

Strong rear frame design boosts payload capacity without adding unnecessary mass.

E85-Capable (4)

Every non-hybrid V8 engine available on Silverado 1500 can operate on E85.

  • E85 - a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline
  • Mostly renewable fuel
  • Can help reduce our dependence on petroleum and reduce tailpipe emissions

Ride and Handling

Coil-over-shock front suspension and a wide front track provide great on-center feel, smooth out minor road irregularities, and supply excellent handling and stability. Durable, fade-resistant front and rear shocks supply an unexpectedly smooth and controlled ride.

Pulls Its Weight, And Then Some

With the available MAX Trailering Pack, Extended Cab models can tow 10,700 lbs. and Crew Cab models can pull 10,600 lbs. The package includes:

  • A strong, 9.5-inch rear axle that helps carry or pull the biggest loads
  • The Vortec 6.2L V8 engine with 403 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque
  • GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential for more grip and less slip when you need it most

Legendary Z71 Performance

The available Z71 Off-Road Package includes:

  • Z71 Off-Road suspension
  • 46mm twin-tube high-pressure gas-charged shocks
  • Skid Plate Package with a frame-mounted shield
  • GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential that provides added grip when you need it
  • Available Z71 Appearance Package: 18" aluminum wheels, body-color mirrors and door handles, body-color grille with chrome insert, and Rancho ® shocks

Tow/Haul Mode

Tow/Haul Mode enhances performance while pulling a trailer or hauling heavy loads. When activated, this feature modified the automatic transmission shift schedule and helps reduce throttle pedal activity by the driver while traveling over rolling terrain.

Locking Rear Differential

When rear-wheel slippage occurs at lower speeds, the available GM-segment exclusive automatic locking rear differential allows additional traction on snow, mud and ice, or even on a wet boat ramp.

PERFORMANCE OR EFFICIENCY?

Reconcile The Difference Between Want And Need.

For truck lovers, the phrase "fuel efficient full-size pickup truck" is no longer a contradiction in terms. As America's first two-mode full-size hybrid pickup truck, the Silverado Hybrid(10) offers fuel efficiency you just can't get with any other competitor - 20 MPG city and 23 MPG highway(11). But that's just half the story. Silverado Hybrid also delivers the kind of legendary performance you expect from a Chevy truck: 332 horsepower, 367 lb.-ft. of torque, up to 6,100 lbs. of towing capacity (2WD)(5), and up to 1,527 lbs. of payload capacity (2WD)(3).

Whenever there's life to be done-and fuel to be saved-that's when you'll realize you need the 2012 Silverado Hybrid.

What Makes a Silverado a Silverado?

You can count on Chevy to take a great truck and make it even greater. For 2012, the Silverado Hybrid has a fresh new look, but underneath it's still the Silverado you've come to depend on with smooth responsive handling and the StabiliTrak® Electronic Control System.

Bold New Look

For 2012, Silverado's front end has been updated to include a chrome mesh grille and chrome bumper for a sleek, contemporary look.

New Exterior Colors

For 2012 Chevy added new color choices, bringing Silver Ice Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Graystone Metallic to the lineup.

There's One Place Like Home.

You buy a pickup truck for its capability, but you still like your creature comforts and Silverado has plenty: SiriusXM® Satellite Radio(8) with 3 trial months, MP3 playback, and 60/40 bench seats on 1HY and front bucket seats on 2HY are just some of its features. All are part of the Silverado experience. Here's what else Silverado Hybrid offers:

Hybrid Power Flow and Instrumentation

Silverado 2HY Hybrid's power flow informs you of how the Hybrid system is currently functioning. Hybrid-specific instrumentation includes an economy gauge that constantly updates your fuel conservation efforts. There's also an auto stop position on the tachometer that lets you know when the engine has shut down and you're running fully on electric power.

FUEL EFFIECIENCY

Fuel Efficiency(12) No Full-Size Pickup Can Touch

Silverado Hybrid offers 20 MPG city, which is unsurpassed by a V6 Honda Accord(12). It also offers up to 18% better city fuel economy than Ford F-150 and up to 43% better city fuel economy than Ram 1500(13). Besides increased fuel economy, Hybrid's electrically variable transmission also provides tremendous trailering capability, enhancing smoothness and quality when towing: towing capacity is 6,100 lbs. with 2WD and 5,900 lbs. with 4WD models(5).

What's more, Silverado Hybrid features two-mode advanced technology you won't find in Toyota Tundra.

Mode 1:

At low speeds and with light loads, Silverado Hybrid can operate three ways: electric power, engine power, or any combination of the two

Mode 2:

Used primarily at highway speeds or when driving conditions demand, such as towing trailers and climbing steep grades, it provides an electric assist in addition to four-cylinder or eight-cylinder power

WHAT MAKES SILVERADO 2500HD & 3500HD STRONGER AND STURDIER?

Powerful Force: Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel and Allison® Transmission

Together, the reliable available Duramax® Diesel and the available legendary Allison transmission have been proving themselves in the field and on the job for over a decade.

Heavy-duty Allison®

Six-speed transmission harnesses the power of the available Duramax. To make sure it can handle that amount of torque, we beef Silverado up with:

  • Strong torque converter
  • Large diameter output shaft
  • Robust clutches

Duramax Diesel

Has impressive torque and horsepower, as well as impressive towing numbers.

  • With a 36-gallon tank (approx.), the Duramax offers up to 680 highway miles(14) on a single tank when running on gasoline.
  • It's B20 biodiesel(15) compatible and runs cleaner by using diesel exhaust fluid.

What Makes Silverado Sturdy?

Our chassis features a high-strength, fully-boxed steel frame that lets Silverado 3500HD shoulder up to 7,215 lbs. of payload(3)(16). The suspension has big, strong components to handle large loads and provide the ride quality the driver deserves.

  • Massive components include three-inch wide rear leaf springs and precision-forged upper control arms
  • The independent front suspension allows each front wheel to react independently to rout terrain, helping keep each wheel in a vertical position and more firmly planted on the road
  • The rear suspension includes three-inch leaf springs with an asymmetric design that reduces wheel hop on acceleration and better handles increased payloads

SAFETY/CAPABILITY

What Makes a Silverado 2500HD More Secure?

Silverado 2500HD offers the available, durable heavy-duty Allison six-speed transmission, plus a number of other components that give you confidence when you're towing or hauling a heavy load.

Diesel Exhaust Brake System

Included with the Duramax® Diesel, it uses the technology of a variable vane geometry turbo to create back pressure to slow the vehicle down. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life, and more confidence on steep grades.

Hill Start Assist

On uphill inclines greater than a 5% grade, Hill Start Assist automatically engages to hold the truck stationary for about a second after the brake is released. This gives the driver time to accelerate before the truck can roll backward.

Auto Grade Braking

It automatically downshifts the transmission to help slow the truck when you apply the brakes while descending long, steep grades.

Bigger Stronger Brakes

Larger rotors and calipers improve brake pedal feel and result in shorter pedal travel. With Intelligent Brake Assist, the calipers are preloaded. So when the system senses a panic-braking situation, the brakes can be fully applied more quickly.

Trailer Sway Control

Working in conjunction with StabiliTrak®, the Trailer Sway Control feature senses trailer sway and automatically applies the truck's brakes to help reduce sway and help maintain control.
